Overview
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is a coenzyme present in every living cell and involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions. It was first described in 1906 by Arthur Harden and William Young, and work on it led to the 1929 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In the mitochondria it is the main electron carrier in the reactions that produce ATP, the cell's energy currency.NAD+ is also the fuel for the seven sirtuins (SIRT1 to SIRT7) and for the PARP enzymes that repair DNA. Its levels fall with age, by roughly half between 40 and 60 in some tissues, and restoring NAD+ has become one of the most active directions in longevity research.Injectable NAD+ is used to bypass the limited absorption of oral precursors such as NMN and NR.
